This work reimagines the portrait, asking the question “what is more important what someone looks like or the context of their life?” The context of my life is the time was one of disconnection. I had recently moved back to the United States after living abroad for a number of years. I left my friends and social life behind. I was lost. I felt like the proverbial stranger on a strange land.
